Drumcode Press Release:

Drumcode
DC81

In May Drumcode welcomes back one of its original artists in Jesper Dahlback with a brand new four track EP entitled ‘Interpersonal Relationship’.

It was way back in 1996 that Drumcode label-boss Adam Beyer teamed up with good friend Dahlback in his Lenk guise for the inaugural Drumcode 12” but it’s only now, fifteen years later, that a proper solo EP has been scheduled on the Swedish imprint.

Despite his fifteen-year break in original productions for Drumcode, Dahlback has been fairly busy. A true pioneer of techno, he’s released on such a multitude of labels under a variety of guises that it would be crass to start listing them.

The incredibly detailed ‘You Got Me’ opens the EP and evokes mid-nineties dancefloor workouts skilfully with a nagging vocal loop sitting atop a fluid and utterly contemporary pairing of percussion and effects.

The low-slung and dubbed-out locked groove of the wonderfully titled ‘Violent Backlash’ follows and comes on like a master class in controlled aggression. A relentless synth drone and lung-collapsing toms leaping from the mix is pretty much all that is needed, and all that is used.

‘Interpersonal Relationship’ continues with considerable menace. A determined kick drum combines with a two note, pulsing bass while the track mutates via a mixture of clever filtering, drops, tight delays and fantastic, gently clipped conga loop.

‘Our Love’ closes the EP ‘Interpersonal Relationship’ EP but, despite its somewhat sentimental title, continues the aggressive themes set out in tracks one to three. Further exploring the intense vocal loop theme, it ties in nicely with the opener and completes the EP as neatly as it does explosively.

Proof, if any was needed, that some things are worth the wait….

H Productions Press Release

H Productions
HPX052
Release Date: 02-05-2011

Cari Lekebusch’s H Productions label continues its stream of quality techno for 2011 with a brand new EP from the excellent Jesper Dahlback…

H Productions follow up outstanding recent singles from Alexi Delano, The Advent & Industrialyzer and Cari Lekebusch & Jesper Dahlback with a new EP from Swedish production don Jesper Dahlback, this time operating solo. Dahlback has a fifteen year history of producing quality electronic music for labels such as Soma, Turbo, 20:20 vision and of course H Productions and is a highly respected international DJ.

For his latest musical outing Dahlback offers up 4 tracks of spacious, quality techno, kicking off with ‘Thermal Voltage’, a stripped and intense cut with a big warehouse feel to it. Low end bass, relentless percussion and heavily reverbed stabs come together to create a sparse and edgy atmosphere on this excellent opener.

Next up we have ‘Transfer Function’ which continues in a similarly stripped back vein, providing a superb deep and menacing vibe through a fusion of bass, discordant pads and FX, great stuff.

Penultimate track ‘Diode Ladder’ takes an old school line with filtered percussion and a DX style bassline to create a hypnotic piece of techno that is sure to get any dancefloor stuck in the groove.

Finally we have ‘Transistor Buffer’, a brooding and rolling slab of minimal techno (in the original sense) that builds into a powerful groove, providing a perfect final piece to the package.

Jesper Dahlback’s production is faultless and with this latest EP he provides another example of great modern techno that sits perfectly with H Productions stellar output.
Catch an interview with Jesper Dahlback (Drumcode, H Productions) on Ceoltronic Radio tonight. 22-24:00 GMT @ www.rte.ie/pulse NTL 943
